Editorial Standards

Last updated 20 Sept 2026

GiftCardNigeria publishes reviews, rankings, comparisons, guides, and other information about gift card trading platforms serving Nigerian users. These standards explain how we research, verify, write, publish, and update that content.

We base our work on documented evidence, separate facts from editorial judgement, and explain important limitations. Our editorial decisions remain independent of every platform we cover.

For details about our platform testing and scoring system, read How We Review.

Our editorial purpose

Gift card rates, fees, payout times, and trading experiences differ between platforms. They can also change as platforms update their products, policies, and services.

GiftCardNigeria helps readers understand these differences through first-party testing, official platform information, and clearly identified external sources.

Our content:

  • Helps readers make informed decisions.

  • Distinguishes measured facts from editorial judgement.

  • Avoids exaggerated, promotional, and unsupported claims.

  • Explains uncertainty and limitations in the available evidence.

  • Remains useful even when our findings are unfavourable to a platform.

  • Gives readers enough context to assess the information for themselves.

A platform’s inclusion on GiftCardNigeria is not an endorsement. A published score, ranking, or verdict does not guarantee that another user will have the same experience.

What these standards cover

These standards apply to every substantive piece of editorial content published by GiftCardNigeria, including:

  • Platform reviews

  • Platform rankings

  • Head-to-head comparisons

  • Gift-card-type ranking pages

  • Guides and informational articles

  • FAQs

  • Transparency and policy pages

  • App-store reviews, social embeds, and other third-party material displayed on the website

Our How We Review page explains how we select, test, score, fact-check, and retest platforms. These Editorial Standards cover the wider decisions involved in researching, writing, publishing, correcting, and maintaining our content.

Editorial independence

GiftCardNigeria makes its editorial decisions independently.

No platform owns or funds GiftCardNigeria, provides its editorial staff, manages its work, approves its content, or controls its editorial decisions. We apply the same editorial process to every platform.

Platforms cannot pay to:

  • Receive a review.

  • Improve a score.

  • Move higher in a ranking.

  • Be declared the winner of a comparison.

  • Change an editorial verdict.

  • Remove an unfavourable test result.

  • Influence how we present our findings.

GiftCardNigeria does not use affiliate or referral links. We do not accept platform advertising or publish sponsored editorial content.

If our commercial model changes, we will update these standards and publish the necessary disclosures before introducing the new arrangement. Commercial considerations will remain separate from our reviews, scores, rankings, comparisons, and verdicts.

Our relationship with reviewed platforms

We do not notify platforms before routine tests. This allows us to assess their services under conditions closer to those an ordinary user may encounter.

Platforms do not receive advance copies of our reviews, rankings, comparisons, scores, or verdicts. They do not approve our work before publication or negotiate changes because they disagree with a result.

We do not routinely contact platforms for comment before publication. After publication, a platform can submit a factual correction request supported by evidence.

We may contact a platform for clarification while investigating a correction or checking information that cannot be resolved through the evidence available to us. We assess any response alongside our testing records and other sources. Providing clarification does not give the platform editorial control.

Accuracy and verification

We support every factual claim with appropriate evidence. The type and strength of evidence we use depend on the claim being made.

Our sources include:

  • First-party testing records

  • Transaction logs

  • Screenshots and payment evidence

  • Official platform websites and applications

  • Published terms, policies, and help documentation

  • App Store and Google Play records

  • Direct platform communications

  • Credible public records

  • Reliable third-party reporting

We use the strongest available source. When we describe something observed during our testing, we identify it as a test finding. When information comes directly from a platform, we present it as the platform’s stated position rather than something we independently measured.

We do not present assumptions, marketing claims, rumours, or unverified user allegations as established facts. When reliable evidence is incomplete or contradictory, we explain that limitation to readers.

Accuracy also depends on context. Rates, fees, limits, and payout times can vary by card type, denomination, region, account level, payment method, and testing date. We do not compare figures as though they are equivalent when those conditions differ materially.

Source attribution

We clearly identify where important information comes from.

We link to public sources when doing so is useful and safe. We identify information supplied by a platform and credit the original source of third-party reporting. When primary evidence is available, we use it instead of relying only on summaries from other publications.

We do not copy another publication’s reporting without attribution. We also avoid sources with uncertain origins when stronger evidence is available.

A link does not make a claim accurate on its own. We check that each source supports the specific statement attached to it and that the surrounding wording represents the source fairly.

Confidential and unnamed sources

We use unnamed sources only in limited circumstances.

Before relying on one, an editor confirms the source’s identity, assesses the source’s connection to the subject, considers possible conflicts or motivations, and checks the information independently where possible.

The source has to provide a credible reason for requesting confidentiality, and an editor approves the decision to grant anonymity. We do not use anonymity to publish unsupported accusations.

Where it is safe, we explain why a source has not been named without sharing details that could reveal the person’s identity.

Reviews, rankings, and comparisons

Our platform reviews draw from documented evidence and the methodology published on How We Review.

The scoring system calculates platform rankings. Editors cannot manually rearrange platforms to favour a particular company.

Comparison pages use current platform records for scores and factual information. When a new testing cycle changes a platform’s published data, the relevant comparison reflects that change. The written verdict remains an editorial assessment grounded in the available evidence.

We do not choose comparison winners for commercial, personal, or promotional reasons.

A higher overall score indicates stronger performance under our methodology, but it does not mean the same platform suits every user. Supported cards, payout methods, account requirements, limits, and individual priorities can still affect a reader’s decision.

Our testing cycles, evidence rules, scoring dimensions, weights, and retesting process are explained on How We Review.

Guides and informational content

Our guides answer clear reader questions using current, verifiable information.

We explain each subject in plain language, distinguish general information from platform-specific findings, and link to relevant reviews, rankings, and methodology pages.

We include important limitations and check time-sensitive facts before publication. We do not use claims such as “safest,” “highest-paying,” or “guaranteed” unless reliable evidence supports them.

Our guides provide general information. We do not present them as personal financial, legal, tax, or investment advice.

Conflicts of interest

Everyone involved in researching, writing, fact-checking, or approving content discloses relationships that could affect, or reasonably appear to affect, their judgement.

These relationships include:

  • Current or recent employment involving a reviewed platform.

  • Paid consulting or contract work for a relevant company.

  • Investments or other direct financial interests.

  • Close personal or professional relationships with relevant platform staff.

  • Gifts, payments, free services, or special access offered by a platform.

  • Any other interest that could influence an editorial decision.

A contributor with a material conflict does not write, fact-check, or approve the affected content. Where an unavoidable conflict remains relevant to the published work, we disclose it clearly to readers.

Gifts, incentives, and special treatment

Our editorial contributors do not accept payment, gifts, preferential rates, private benefits, or other incentives in exchange for favourable coverage.

We reject requests to:

  • Hide a failed test.

  • Increase a score without supporting evidence.

  • Change a ranking manually.

  • Remove supported criticism.

  • Present paid material as independent editorial work.

  • Give one platform private access to unpublished findings.

GiftCardNigeria funds the gift cards used in its tests. If a platform provides unavoidable credit, special access, or another form of assistance that could affect a result, we record and disclose the arrangement in the relevant content.

Our use of AI

GiftCardNigeria uses artificial intelligence in limited supporting roles.

AI may assist us with:

  • Organising research.

  • Structuring notes.

  • Editing for grammar and clarity.

  • Identifying claims that need further human review.

We do not treat AI as an authoritative source. AI does not independently publish content, approve a review, assign a final score, resolve a correction request, or replace the assigned writer or fact-checker.

We do not use AI to invent test results, quotations, sources, transactions, platform information, or supporting evidence.

A human verifies the claims, calculations, links, names, quotations, and evidence in every article before publication. Responsibility for the published work remains with the named editorial contributors.

Third-party content and user opinions

Platform review pages may contain social-media posts, app-store reviews, or summaries of third-party opinions.

We clearly label this material. Its inclusion does not mean GiftCardNigeria has reviewed, verified, or endorsed every statement it contains.

Third-party opinions do not replace our first-party testing. We do not treat one social post, app review, viral claim, or anonymous allegation as proof of a wider pattern.

When we summarise user feedback, we look for recurring themes across the available reviews. We also consider when those reviews were published, whether the platform responded, and whether other evidence supports the complaint or observation.

We deactivate an embed when it becomes broken, unavailable, misleading, unsafe, or irrelevant. Removing an embed does not automatically change a platform’s score unless the evidence supporting that score has also changed.

Corrections

Readers, reviewed platforms, and other affected parties can request a factual correction by emailing admin@giftcardnigeria.com.

A correction request should include:

  • The URL of the affected page.

  • The exact statement being challenged.

  • An explanation of what is inaccurate.

  • Supporting links or attachments.

  • The sender’s relationship to the issue, where relevant.

When we receive a correction request, the editorial team reviews the original evidence and assesses any new material supplied. We may check current platform information or conduct another test when the disputed claim concerns present performance.

We correct confirmed factual errors. We may decline a request based only on disagreement with a supported score, verdict, ranking, or unfavourable finding.

We apply corrections directly to the affected content. We do not publish correction notes or maintain a public change log.

Internally, our CMS audit history retains the previous content, the reason for the change, the supporting evidence, the responsible editor, and the date of the correction.

We do not promise a fixed response or resolution time. The time required depends on the nature of the request, the available evidence, and whether additional testing is necessary.

Complaints and editorial challenges

Readers, reviewed platforms, and other affected parties can contact us about:

  • Accuracy

  • Fairness

  • Undisclosed conflicts of interest

  • Privacy

  • Misrepresentation

  • Source handling

  • Misuse of AI

  • Other possible breaches of these standards

Complaints should be sent to admin@giftcardnigeria.com. The message should identify the relevant page, explain the concern, and include supporting evidence where available.

The editorial team assesses each complaint against our records and published standards. A platform’s disagreement with a conclusion does not, by itself, establish that the conclusion is inaccurate or unfair.

We record the complaint, the evidence considered, and the editorial decision internally.

Updating, archiving, and removing content

We update published content when:

  • A platform changes its rates, fees, limits, features, or policies.

  • A new testing cycle is completed.

  • A factual error is confirmed.

  • A guide becomes outdated.

  • A source changes or becomes unavailable.

  • New evidence materially affects an article.

We generally update, archive, or unpublish outdated material instead of erasing it permanently.

We reserve complete removal for exceptional circumstances, including:

  • A serious privacy or safety risk.

  • A binding legal requirement.

  • The accidental publication of protected information.

  • Content that cannot be corrected responsibly.

  • Material that is irreparably false or unsupported.

Removing content from public view does not automatically erase its internal history. We retain editorial and audit records unless their removal is legally required.

Privacy and responsible use of evidence

Our work may involve screenshots, transaction records, support messages, payment notifications, and other sensitive material.

We use this evidence only for legitimate research, fact-checking, correction, and publication purposes.

Before publishing selected evidence, we remove or obscure:

  • Gift card numbers, codes, and PINs.

  • Bank and payment details.

  • Personal contact information.

  • Account credentials.

  • Private transaction identifiers.

  • Confidential source information.

  • Personal data readers do not need to assess the finding.

We restrict access to unredacted evidence to authorised members of the editorial and fact-checking team.

Read our Privacy Policy and Data Policy for more information about how we handle information.

Practices we prohibit

GiftCardNigeria does not permit:

  • Fabricating tests, transactions, quotations, sources, screenshots, or evidence.

  • Hiding failed tests to improve a platform’s result.

  • Changing calculated rankings manually.

  • Publishing paid material as independent editorial work.

  • Plagiarism.

  • Misleading headlines and unsupported superlatives.

  • Accepting payment for favourable coverage.

  • Using confidential information for personal benefit.

  • Publishing private information without a legitimate editorial reason.

  • Presenting AI-generated material as verified research.

  • Altering a verdict because a platform objects to an unfavourable result.

A suspected breach can be reported to admin@giftcardnigeria.com.

Accountability and changes to these standards

Writers, fact-checkers, and editors share responsibility for following these standards. We address unsupported claims, missing evidence, conflicts, and privacy concerns before publication.

We record material editorial decisions in the CMS audit log and retain previous internal versions through the CMS history.

We update these standards when our publication, research process, technology, commercial model, or legal responsibilities change. The date at the top of this page reflects the latest material revision.
